The FSH3 put Rohde & Schwarz spectrum analysis in a field bag in the early 2000s. It covers 100 kHz to 3 GHz, weighs 2.5 kg, runs about four hours on its NiMH pack, and R&S aimed it at jobs like installing and servicing mobile radio base stations and finding faults in RF cables on site. Which version you get matters more than anything else. The .03 has a preamplifier, the .13 adds a tracking generator, and the .23 has both. Only the tracking-generator versions can do distance-to-fault and transmission measurements, so check the order number on the label. The battery is the same type as Fluke's BP190, and the FSH6 and FSH18 are the 6 and 18 GHz siblings. Accessories like the VSWR bridge and power sensors change what it can do, so count them when you compare listings.

Check the listing photos and the rear panel against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing option or probe should come off the price.
What to check
If the battery is completely flat, the FSH3 won't switch on even with the AC adapter plugged in, so a dead-looking unit may only need a long charge with the power off. The packs are NiMH, rated for 300 to 500 charge cycles, so an original battery is likely tired.
01Model number: Ask for a photo of the label with the order number. Its last two digits are 03, 13 or 23, and only the 13 and 23 versions have the tracking generator.
02Battery: Ask how long it runs off the battery after a full charge. A healthy pack gets close to four hours, and a flat one can stop it switching on at all.
03AC adapter: Check that the plug-in AC adapter is in the photos. You need it to charge the pack and to run the unit.
04Screen: Ask for a photo of a live sweep on the screen. The color display should be evenly lit with no dead patches.
05N input: Ask for a close photo of the RF input connector. The center pin should be straight and the threads undamaged.
06Options: Ask which options are enabled, such as FSH-B1 or FSH-K1, and what accessories come with it. The listing should name them, since they decide what the unit can do.
07Calibration: Ask for the certificate if the listing says calibrated. A dated cert from a named lab with measured data counts, and a sticker alone proves little.
We'd buy orinas-inc's FSH3 at $950 delivered from Japan, titled working with a photo of a live sweep, well under the $1,525–2,000 band. There are at least 35 for sale, mostly China resellers asking $1,640–1,712 delivered here with watermarked photos shared across accounts, so ask any of them for a photo of the actual unit with its serial and a sweep. Read the order number on the label, since a .03 has the preamplifier, a .13 the tracking generator and a .23 both, and only the tracking-generator versions do distance-to-fault, which makes electric.labyrinth's $1,050 tracking-generator unit worth a shipping quote. Ask how long the battery runs and whether the AC adapter is included, since a flat pack can stop it switching on, and skip lhy-tech's $5,620 ask, about 3.3 times the $1,705 median.
