Tektronix introduced the 465 in November 1972 as a portable 100 MHz dual-trace scope with two timebases, so you can expand part of a waveform with the delayed B sweep. It stayed in production until 1983, and TekWiki calls it very popular. Tek's microfiche lists 37 variations. Leon Orchard planned the product, R. Michael Johnson led the electrical design and Bob Rossman's team did the mechanical design. It's all solid state apart from the CRT, an 8 × 10 cm tube with P31 phosphor, and rise time is 3.5 ns. Scopes built from 1976 on shipped with P6105 probes instead of P6065s. Some came with a DM44 multimeter attached to the top, which also reads the time between two points on the trace. It's still a fine first analog scope, and a working one with its probes is the one to find.

Check the listing photos and the rear panel against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing option or probe should come off the price.
What to check
The 465 family uses tantalum capacitors that are known to short and take the scope down, often as no trace or a scope that shuts off within seconds. TekWiki's repair notes also list failed HV multipliers (no display or a shrunken trace), worn switches and dead scale lamps.
01Trace: Ask for a photo of the calibrator square wave on CH 1 and CH 2. Both should be sharp, steady and the right height.
02Warm run: Ask the seller to leave it on for an hour and check again. The trace should still be there at the end.
03CRT: Look for burn marks or a small, dim display in the photos. The trace should focus to a thin line and fill the graticule.
04Line voltage: Ask what the line voltage selector and regulating range are set to. They should match your mains, with the right fuse fitted.
05Probes and DM44: Check the photos for the probes, front cover and any DM44 on top. A working DM44 shows its LED readout.
06Calibration: Read what calibrated means in the listing. A dated certificate from a named lab, with data, is real, while a sticker or cal'd in the title proves little.
07Packing: Ask how it will be packed. Good is a double box with padding around the knobs and the CRT face.
We'd buy nissiglobal's 465 at $202 delivered, at the bottom of the $200–380 band, because it's the only listing here whose photo shows a trace on the screen. There are at least 27 for sale, mostly plain US units asking $200–380 delivered, and shipping alone runs $20–194 on a scope this size. None of these is titled with probes, the DM44 or a calibration, so budget for a pair of 10x probes, and ask for the calibrator square wave on both channels and how it'll be packed. The $90 one titled trace distorted is a repair job, and skip irontime1's $2,000 ask, about eight times the $250 median for a plain 465.

The cheapest 465 here not titled with a fault or a READ warning, at $202 delivered, and its photo shows a trace across the screen. No probes are titled, so ask, and ask for the calibrator square wave on both channels.
The only photo here with a live trace, at the bottom of the band. Ask the seller to leave it on for an hour and photograph it again, since the 465's tantalum capacitors are known to short and take the scope down.
Titled tested on both channels and the trigger but with a distorted trace, at $90 delivered. That's a repair job for someone with the service manual, priced well under a working one.
