Tektronix developed the TDS3000 series under the code name Raptor and started building it in 1998, a light scope that could run on a battery. The TDS3054B is the 500 MHz, four-channel model of the B generation. It samples at 5 GS/s and captures up to 3,600 waveforms a second with intensity grading, the digital phosphor display Tek sold it on. The B added a built-in 10BaseT Ethernet port and e*Scope, Tek's browser-based remote control, and kept the floppy drive and Centronics port that the later C swapped for USB. It weighs 3.2 kg on its own and runs about three hours on the optional TDS3BATB lithium-ion pack. Extras plug in as modules, the TDS3GV for GPIB, RS-232 and VGA, and analysis packs like TDS3AAM. Look for one with four P6139A probes and the modules you need.

Application modules: TDS3AAM advanced analysis, TDS3LIM limit test, TDS3TMT telecom mask, TDS3VID extended video, TDS3SDI 601 digital video
TDS3FFT and TDS3TRG modules, built in from firmware 3.21
TDS3PRT plug-in thermal printer
Four P6139A probes
Check the listing photos and the rear panel against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing option or probe should come off the price.
What to check
The LCD is lit by a cold cathode lamp, and owners commonly report dim screens as it ages. The floppy drives are old too, and many owners swap in a USB floppy emulator.
01Self test: Ask for a photo of the screen after power-on. It should finish its self tests with no error message.
02Backlight: Ask for a photo of the screen in normal room light. It should be bright and even, with no dim or pink cast.
03Firmware and modules: Ask for a photo of the firmware version from the Utility menu and of the module slots. Version 3.21 or later has FFT and advanced trigger built in.
04Battery: Ask whether a TDS3BATB or TDS3BATC battery is included and how long it lasts. A pack that runs the scope for a while counts, and a dead one should be priced as missing.
05Probes: Check the photos for the four P6139A probes. Missing probes are a real cost on a 500 MHz scope.
06Ethernet: Ask whether the scope has been used on a network. A seller who has opened e*Scope in a browser has proved the port works.
07Calibration: Check what backs a calibrated claim. A dated certificate from a named lab, with data, counts, while a sticker proves little.
We'd buy kellyjo_13's TDS3054B at $1,231 delivered, because it's a US dealer's unit titled with TRG and FFT and its photo shows all four channels running. There are at least 58 for sale, nearly all from China resellers asking $714–1,180 delivered here, and most complete ones fall in the $800–1,600 band. The equipwise auction titled as passing SPC and self test sits at $651 delivered but will climb. None of these is titled with the four P6139A probes or a battery, so price those in, and on a China listing ask for a photo of the actual unit with its serial and self-test, since the FUMISO and zecenke watermarks here turn up across many sellers. Skip 2465b's $2,770 unit titled very low 429 hours, which shares its photo with the same seller's 10K-hour listing.

Titled as passing SPC and self test, from a US seller, at $550 with no bids, or $651 delivered at the current price. It will climb, and we'd stop near $1,000 delivered, just under the $1,074 median, since no probes are titled.
A US dealer's unit titled with TRG and FFT, and the photo shows signals on all four channels. Ask for the firmware version and whether any probes come with it.
